In a previous post, Manifesting with the Moon, I touched on the significance of the Moon and each of its phases. With the Full Moon coming up in the next couple of days, I thought that I would delve deeper into utilising this high point of the lunar cycle and the power it holds for inner work in healing, forgiveness, dreams and manifestation.
Since ancient times, humans have worked closely with the Moon and had an awareness of its phases. This natural energy illuminates the skies and dictated many things from time-keeping to when crops should be planted and set the most viable periods for hunting. Sages, Magi and priests/priestesses were often the guards of the sacred time-keeping records and activities were planned in sync with the flow of mother nature. However, as time has moved on, we have lost touch with the celestial body of the Moon and its effects on our lives; including fertility cycles, migration patterns and emotional influences.
The Full Moon
Lunar energy is at its height during the time of the Full Moon, marking the climax of the lunar cycle and a letting go of energies that come from negativity. It is a time of reflection and release, bringing intensified energy to a peak and showing us what we need to ‘see’ and concentrate on – shining light into the darkness of ourselves. During this time we need to focus on releasing negative thought patterns, habits/addictions, people and events that may have happened during the last lunar cycle. A time of culmination where once everything is released, it is time to start from a clean slate.
Forgiveness for Our Soul Evolution
An overarching theme of the Full Moon is forgiveness; of ourselves, others and situations. When we liberate the negativity in these areas, we are allowing ourselves to process what has happened and release the karma that goes with it. This may sound challenging, but it is a part of our soul evolution.
What is this soul evolution, you may ask? Well, before we reincarnated into this life on Earth, we made soul agreements to evolve during this lifetime (see more on Past Lives here). In order to evolve, we must learn, and in order to learn we must go through trials and tests in order to learn these lessons. Whenever you go through a difficult situation, deal with a an arduous person or find negativity within yourself, look for the lesson that has been cast upon you to help you evolve. Once you have learned this lesson (it could be quick, it could take years!) you will be able to move on.
Once we accept that we are on this planet to evolve and achieve a higher level on our soul journey, we can better understand and cope with each issue we come up against. The perfect time to do this is once each month, at the Full Moon. We take a moment of time to forgive what has happened to us, and release it as resentment leads to bitterness, which negative energy that you really don’t want to be calling into your life.
Forgive and Forget?
Sometimes you can forgive and forget, but other times it will be more difficult to do the latter. Remember that forgiving someone for what they have does not make what they did right. It simply means that you have dealt with this situation are are now ready to move on, casting out the negativity, resentment, anger and upset to make room for cleaner, happier vibes.
Full Moon Ritual
To utilise the power of the Full Moon, I complete a little ritual that helps me to clear the slate each month and replenish my positivity. I’ve outlined what I like to do below, but feel free to experiment with creating your own ritual and what feels right to you. It doesn’t have to take long or be a large production (but it can if you want it to be!) and you can do it alone or with others. Do what feels right for you!
My Ritual
I sit down in a quiet place, burn some incense and even sometimes light a candle or switch on my salt lamp. At the time of the New Moon, I like to write down my goals and dreams that I am manifesting so I bring along my notebook.
Starting with some slow breathing, I write down on a clean sheet of paper the things I want to let go of and those I want to forgive. I read them over then place them into a fireproof dish and burn them to release. Once this is done, I take a minute to just breathe and imagine all these feelings and thoughts disappearing into nothing.
Once this part is done, I take out my notebook and read over the goals and dreams that I listed on the New Moon. I pause at each one and give gratitude for each one that I have made progress towards or achieved, if I feel that I haven’t made any progress on one of the goals I am still grateful and ask my spirit guides and the Universe to help me continue working towards these goals. After I have done this, I then mentally list everything else that I am grateful for. Being in a state of gratitude allows manifestation to flourish as it closes down the ego and eliminates doubts.
Now it is your turn!
Pre-plan ahead some time that you can set aside during the night of the next Full Moon to complete your little ritual so you can start to set your mind to a state which is ready to release negativity and bring in gratitiude.
Have you ever completed a Full Moon ritual? Do you feel like you need an outlet to just let go of all negativity? What would/does your Full Moon ritual consist of?
I’d love to hear from you! Comment below or join the discussion on Facebook or Instagram.
